Literacki/Literatu/Literary Street, Vilna

Residence of Abraham Chervin, 1924.

Description:

This by-street brances off from Pilies St., and goes in a broken line toward the Church of St. Archangel Michael. In the nineteenth century there were many book stores and antique dealers along this street, which got the name Literary Street (Polish: Literacki; Lith.: Literatu).
In 1823 the famous Polish author Adam Mickiewicz lived at Number 5, in the Piasecki family house, owned by the parents of one of his friends.
There are memorial plaques in Polish, Lithuanian, and Russian here, on the arch and its pediment.
