The picture of Billy and Moe as children was taken in approximately 1929 at 44 Poplar St., Newport, RI, where they lived as children. They would have been about 10 and 7 then.

The later picture was taken in 1945 in Providence, RI at a homecoming party for Moe, who had just returned from the Admiralty Islands in the South Pacific where he was stationed during the war. As the war with Germany had ended earlier, Bill had already returned from his service on a PT boat (off Europe or Africa). This has been edited to remove creasing in the original print.
