Stew Cherlin found the following in the 1930 US Census.
Jacob Cherlin: age 42 (born 1888); head of household; emigrated from Russia in 1907. Occupation: construction, building.

In later documents Ida appears as Ida Chirlin.
This Jacob does not appear in the Social Security Death Index either as a Cherlin or as a Chirlin. This sort of thing is fairly common. One possibility would be that he was self-employed and died before 1951.
