This comes from Paul Chirlin, Fall 1998:
My grandfather Harry (Hershel) Chirlin was born in a suburb of Drissa near Druje, on the Dvno River in the district of Vilna, in what is now Belarus. My grandmother was Freda Bartz, born in Druje. Several siblings came over in the first decade of this century.
Note. Drissa had its name changed to Verknedvinsk, then Verchnjadzvinsk. Druje has become Druja. These towns can be seen on the map of the area west of Disna (Dzisna) on the map page.
Paul mentions also that the spelling use at the time of immigration (on the ship's manifest) was Zirlin, which corresponds to the Russian spelling Tsirlin.
Paul has two brothers, Gary and Robert, and a nephew Danny.
