Biographical Information

Born June 2, 1948, in Moscow. Married Galina in his early 20's.

He was raised primarily by his maternal grandparents Grigorii and Fanya while his parents pursued their careers. After his parents' separation around 1959 he was sent to various boarding schools. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 1972.

Filed for emigration to Israel in 1977, and were refused. Became active in the refusenik community with others such as Anatoly Sharansky, Yuri Stern, Yosif Begun, Dina Beilin, Vladimir Slepak, Boris Chernobilsky. Fired from his job, found technical jobs. Involved in shooting a documentary of the conditions of life of Ida Nudel,andwas going to the same with Sakharov when given the offer to emigrate within the following 3 days.

Emigrated to Israel about 1980 with family. Yevgeny, Galina, Aleksei, and Anya Tsirlin became Ben, Gal, David, Hanna (later Ann) Tuval.

Moved to Kiryat Bialik in 1982, then to Haifa to work for Elscint.

Divorced in 1988, moved to Jerusalem, married Lena Nekludovna.

Emigrated to Boston in 1990. Divorced about 2000. Worked for Analogic Corp. Retired in 2014, and devoted himself to travel and yachting.
