ROSH HASHANA RINGS IN A VERY SPECIAL NEW YEAR FOR EMIGRES
On Rosh Hashana and other Jewish holy days, Jacob and Nataly Cherlin were not allowed to enter the only synagogue in Minsk, U.S.S.R. It was not a temple, really. The wood hut was built after World War II, when Minsk was virtually flattened, and it was used by old Jews who taught Hebrew and the Talmud to the young.
