Served in the Australian Light Horse Regiment in Egypt and in France during WWI. He met Beryl in London, when he was on leave, and they were married January 18, 1919 at the Holborn Registry Office, London. Witnesses Ben Cherlin and Mark Clark, the taxi driver.
Chester eventually brought over Ben, Esther, and Jack to Australia.
The Ward family is descended from William Ward who came to Tasmania in 1832. Research by Harry Brookes has identified 800 descendants of William Ward.
