Biographical information:
Born in the Ukraine in 1896. In 1901 his family (father and stepmother Riwke) emigrated to Argentina, to the agricultural colony Colonia Dora, which was founded in 1900.
Leon was a fisherman on the Salado River. In "Dora" (as they called Colonia Dora) he met Rebeca Gurevich at an early age, probably 15; Leon said they had a family by the time she was 18.
The Gurevich family did not approve of marriage to a fisherman, so they stole a cart and horses and eloped to the south, but the family caught up with them by train.
After the wedding they were sent off in disgrace to Colonia Clara where their first child Salomón was born. Then they returned to settle in Ceres. They set up shop, which became a large general store, including even a tile factory.
In Ceres the children David (Ñato), Heyser (Luis), Jaime, Manuel, Zenón (Cholo) and Agustín were born. Agustín was the godson of President Agustín P. Justo.
Then they moved to Buenos Aires, leaving the shop to be run by Salomón and David. Leon continued to be involved in trade in agricultural products and hides, along with his brother Bernardo, and had a warehouse in Matheu Street in Buenos Aires.
Leon died in Argentina June 27, 1961, aged 65, and Rebeca Gurevich died June 16, 1992. They are buried in De Tablada Cemetery, Buenos Aires, 23/729/37
Ernesto visited with her a few months before her death.
Ernesto reports that Isaac told Rosita Gribnicow that the family came from the Ekaterinoslav in the Ukraine and previously, at an unspecified time, from France. There is no other source for French origins.
